Frequently Asked Questions for Imray Digital Charts
| Using A USB To Serial Adapter With IDC Question: I've installed the USB to serial adapter, but no GPS data is being received, what's wrong? |
Answer: Ensure the drivers for the device are correctly installed and configured and that the USB Serial adapter hardware is listed in Device Manager, with no error symbols next to it. If the device is correctly installed consult the manufacturer's website to see if there are any updated drivers for the USB serial adapter. Check that the com port specified in the GPS device settings for IDC matches the com port number given to the USB adapter. Check that the baud rate specified in the GPS device settings for IDC matches the baud rate of the GPS you are using. The main issue with USB adapters is ensuring that they are correctly installed and configured as it is a relatively small step to get the plotter working with the adapter once it is set up correctly. There are known incompatibilities with windows XP and a number of USB to serial adapters therefore it is of primary importance to consult the user manual and follow the instructions exactly, when installing the device. |
