Faroe, Iceland and Greenland
This third edition of Faroe, Iceland and Greenland contains extensive revisions as well as improved information on the three areas that the pilot covers. Much of this new data has been provided by Royal Cruising Club members who have visited the area since the first edition was published. The editor. Willy Ker, has drawn heavily upon their notes and sketch charts to provide what is the only comprehensive compendium of information on these cruising grounds in the northernmost part of the Atlantic Ocean.
Faroe, Iceland & Greenland are linked by history. These are the lands of the Sagas and the Norse settlements 1000 years ago. While the Norse culture and language are still alive and well in Faroe and Iceland, only fascinating evidence remains of the Norse settlements in Greenland. These died out in the 15th Century, to be replaced now by a small but vibrant modern Danish/Inuit population. Each area is totally different in character, but all share long daylight hours in summer. In common, are a friendly people as well as challenging and rewarding sailing.
WILLY KER has cruised in the whole area for more than 20 years, including the West Coast of Greenland from Cape Farewell to Thule and exploring most of the little known East Coast as well. Willy is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and a recipient of the CCA Blue Water Medal and the Tilman Trophy.
