William Thomson
Author, illustrator and tides expert

William Thomson is author of the bestselling Book of Tides and Imray’s Explorer Guides, demonstrating his talent for condensing detailed information into visually engaging material you can easily learn from.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and shares his expertise with highly respected institutions including the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation and the Royal Institute of Navigation, Yachting Monthly, Sailing Today, Base, Coast and Outdoor Swimmer. He keeps his yellow catamaran, Luna, in Catalunya.
In addition to being a trained PADI rescue diver and ex-RNLI volunteer, William is an experienced swimmer, stand-up paddleboarder, surfer and single-handed sailor. This multi-skilled expertise in a variety of watersports, combined with his academic learning, allows William to share practical knowledge guaranteed to boost your confidence, performance and safety at sea.
